Solidarity Knows No Boundary: Irish Students Visit And Support The Day Centre

Last week, 57 Irish students from St. Paul's Bessbrook, St. Patrick's College Dungannon and St. Patrick's College Lisburn have visited ASS SCUT`s Day Centre. After a brief presentation of our organisation, the students interacted with our beneficiaries and our team, by playing various games, singing and dancing.

The visit however was more than an experience exchange, since the students and their institutions have supported the Day Centre with in-kind donations during the past year. In fact, we started collaborating with these colleges last year and the professors and students have decided to make it a yearly tradition to do a micro fund raising on our behalf. The money raised reaches us in the form of in kind donations, after checking with our team what are our most pressing issues.

As Christine Fearon, teacher at St. Paul's Bessbrook, explained: "We visited Scut last year for the first time and we were very impressed with the Day Centre and the Association`s vision for improving the quality of life of people with mental health problems. We agreed Scut was very progressive. For this reason, we decided to find a way to improve the delivery of Scut`s cooking and IT programmes. We bought laptops and cooking equipment and it was great to see how appreciated these were, even a year later."

Our beneficiaries were excited to interact with the Irish visitors. On their behalf and on behalf of our team, we would like to extend a sincere thank you! We expect you all next year with open arms and new activities and projects.
